For several years, Karen Payne has explored the expressive power of paint, experimenting with various media before finding her primary voice in oils. Her artistic journey, largely self-guided, was deepened by a Foundation Painting course she completed during the pandemic. Following her experience as a wildcard on Sky Arts’ Landscape Artist of the Year, Karen was inspired to immerse herself in the world of plein air painting. She now regularly joins a group of artists to capture the stunning, ever-changing landscapes of Yorkshire. Her work draws inspiration from the vibrant intensity of Van Gogh and the structural forms of Cézanne, blending these classic influences with a modern perspective.
